Join our Ecoteams

Ecoteams help households reduce their impact on the environment and save money. Ecoteams are groups of 6-8 people who meet once a month for roughly 6 months.

Ecoteams Postcard Thumb 350Each month, the Ecoteam decide what eco actions they will do at home, and talk about the things they have already done. Each month the Ecoteam members upload information about what they have done onto the Ecoteam website.

Why should I join an Ecoteam?

Ecoteams help you learn how to live a greener lifestyle in your own home and save money. By working with friends, family and neighbours, you get support and encouragement to do the best you can.

You will also pick up practical tips on how to:

  • Recycle more effectively
  • Cut down on rubbish sent to landfill
  • Use water more efficiently
  • Save energy in the home & reduce bills
  • Travel in an environmental way

At the end of the programme, you will receive a UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) certificate to show all the good work you have done.

Who are we working with?

Islington Council are working with environmental charity Global Action Plan. Global Action Plan have successfully run Ecoteams right across London and now are combining their experience with the expertise of Islington councils Green Living Centre to help residents live a greener Lifestyle.

How much of a time commitment is involved?

Ecoteams can spend as much or as little time on the project but typically a few hours a month and a willingness to learn is all that is needed.

When does it start in Islington and how long is it running for?
We want 60 team leaders to be trained end of January. Team leaders will work with teams of around 5 members over a period of 6 months until July/ August 2010. Generally, teams are made up of groups of friends, neighbours or people who use the same community centre etc.

How can I get involved?
