Old Ford Housing Association and Barratt Homes last year won the bid to place a stellar regeneration scheme on the site of a former workhouse (and latterly a hospital) in Bow.

Adjacent to Bromley-by-Bow station, this development will occupy 3 hectares, and is required by the landowner, the London Development Agency, to incorporate landmark design features – hence three architectural practices are working to ensure this is achieved.
Other stakeholders include the Housing Corporation and the London Development Agency.
Currently in the planning submission stage, this 1000+ unit scheme at St Andrew’s Hospital will deliver 50% affordable housing provision, on a habitable room basis, with a 70:30 split between social rented and shared ownership homes. There will also be 30% family housing provided across the whole site.
The taller private tenure buildings overlook the Olympic complex. A third of the site (10,000sqm) will be set aside for public open space. Additional benefits, ensuring a sustainable regeneration package, include a number of retail units, community buildings, a primary care trust facility with two GP practices, and a dentistry practice with pharmacy attached
